My Cat was a Gift from God

I was given a gift from God in the shape of a giant fat cat called Tyson.

This is quite a claim – so I will explain.

Many years ago – 1995 I decided I would like a cat. As a child I always had pets and was particularly fond of cats. I thought I’d go and have a look at some at the local pet Rescue Center. Before going I thought about cat names. I don’t know why but I decided on ‘Tyson’. Tyson is a name that is only familiar to me as there was a boxer called Tyson. The boxer has a bad reputation and as such it surprised me when I pulled this name out of the air. Why would I name a family pet after a convicted rapist?

Bear in mind at this stage I had not been to the Pet Rescue Center and looked at any cats.

That weekend I paid a visit. I told the receptionist; I’d like a large cat, longhaired, something fluffy to cuddle. The receptionist told me that they only had one cat that fitted this description. His name was …………Tyson.

He was a four-year-old Maine Coon and he’d been at the center for 3 months. He’d been taken off the street and so named due to his aggressive streak.

Fate?

There was another cat there, a large fat white shorthaired cat. He wasn’t aggressive but he had a kidney problem and so even though fate was telling me Tyson was my cat, I took him home reluctantly.

When I got Tyson home, he climbed out of his travel box, onto my shoulder and gave me an enormous ‘cuddle’. It was wonderful and strange. It was as if he was saying thank you for my rescuing him.

Tyson for two weeks after this ‘cuddled’ in turn every single visitor I had to my home. It was quite a strange sight. He’d move from person to person, giving a cuddle and then he’d settle down.

Tyson was wonderfully strange in other ways too. He came when I whistled, and used to take pleasure in jumping on my head while I lay in bed. He’d jump from the top of an enormous wardrobe…plop.

Tyson lived a long healthy life and was with me for 14years. He brought me so much pleasure and love.

He was my gift from God.

Tyson sounds almost dog-like. It is cool that you rescued him. Thanks for telling your story.

You are right, this is exactly how he was, a very loyal amazing pet and in fact not the least bit agressive!
