Bolt - The Animated Movie - White Shepherd Dogs and My Pup

by Lorrie Davids(663) Blue Star

We don't often go to the movie theatre - it just seems that Saturday mornings  - our best time to go - are usually taken with other things.  So, with great excitement, I waited for the animated feature Bolt to be released to DVD. The reason I wanted to see the movie so badly is my pup, RiCA, is a Bolt.  They share the breed of American White Shepherd, sometimes called White German Shepherd.

Tonight was the night.  We loaded the DVD into the player and sat back to be entertained.  We were not disappointed.  The story line was good, even original, and we saw so many similarities between their animated creation and our own precious pup.  The Disney people did their homework well.  All throughout the movie we laughed at antics on the screen that our RiCA often does.  I think RiCA believes she has a "superbark" that will change any circumstance and when Bolt "chewed" the water from the sprinkler, that was vintage RiCA.  The animators did a great job with the Shepherd stance, one back leg slightly behind the other, tail relaxed and eyes fixed on an object.

RiCA's favorite thing in the world is a car ride and we saw the same look of pleasure on Bolt's face.  Shepherds are loyal and they used that trait in the film also.  There was a time in my life when I needed a rescuer.  God sent RiCA to me.  And I, someone who really doesn't keep people or anything too close, gave my heart up to that little White Shepherd that followed me home one day. In the film, Bolt was the loyal rescuer, the same trait RiCA has shown to me.

Before the credits were even rolling, I had gotten down on the floor with my girl to love on her.

We have a Siberian Husky also.  Huskies are often in films, Snowdogs, 8 Below and Balto and are loved for their wolflike quality.  It was fun to see a White Shepherd animated and on the screen. We have a Balto and a Bolt.  I can live with that.

Hi Lori.  They got the white shepherd behavior right.  I think you will enjoy the movie.

I enjoyed Bolt too. My hubby and I go to see most of the kiddie movies. Most of them are pretty good.

Hi Lori, how sweet is this?? The other day, this was playing on the tv, but I didn't catch much of it. It was my nephew's birtday and I was busy with the some of the adults while all the kids (14 of them) sat staring at the tube. Now I will have to rent it and watch it for myself. :-)
