When you hear the name "Pabst" you don't think about a dog, especially the World's Ugliest Dog, but Friday, June 26th that changed for those attending the World's Ugliest Dog contest. The yearly contest winner is a boxer mix, a shelter dog rescued by Miles Egstad of Citrus Heights, CA about three years ago.
Pabst's main competition was Rascal, a former winner. This was Pabst's first run at the title. Rascal is a Chinese Crested, the breed that tends to dominate in this contest.
All contestants are checked and deemed healthy before they are allowed to participate. The competitors must be "naturally ugly" according to Fair Board Member Brian Sobel.
The judges include Karen "Doc" Halligan whose credits include Groomer Has It and Dogs 101; Jon Provost who decades ago played Timmy on the TV show Lassie and Brian Sobel.
Pabst's owner won $1,600 from the host of the contest, the Sonoma-Marin Fair in a sweep of all three catagories of competition. I wonder if Pabst got a "blue ribbon"?
