A story in the news this week reminds us that man's best friend still has a little bit of the wild in him. In Nicholas, Kentucky a newborn boy was grabbed from his crib by the family dog, a Native American Indian dog named Dakota. The infant's dad chased the dog who carried the baby into the woods nearby and returned alone. The baby was found with puncture wounds and cuts. The infant is in critical condition at the University of Kentucky Hospital.
Dakota, like many pets, takes items found around the house and hides them. It was not thought that the dog meant the infant any harm, but he is now in the custody of animal control.
Native American Indian dogs are good family dogs with a wolf-like appearance and known to be gentle, loyal and hardworking.
This story brings home the warning to watch your dogs around children. While this story is rather unique, it is a grim reminder that the unexpected can happen.
