Crafty Cat

That hide his sharpened claws
Pad softly from floor to floor
As he follows me from door to door.
I wonder what he thinks of,
As following me he goes.
His green almond eyes upon me,
Seeming never, ever to close.
His shiny, sleekly soft black fur
And his ever so unpretentious purr
Make up just one of his many sides
Crafty camouflage , under which his true nature hides
I wonder what he thinks of,
As following me he goes.
His green almond eyes upon me,
Seeming never, ever to close.
His true nature is one of keenness,
That goes with his nasty meow,
His true nature is one of meanness,
I sense it's presence now.
I wonder what he thinks of,
As following me he goes.
His green almond eyes upon me,
Seeming never, ever to close.
The end to this game
Is very near.
I have pushed my luck a little,
A little far I fear.
This cat is very wicked,
Upon that you may rely,
I must hurry quickly,
Or I shall surely die.

Yes, it's time for me to retire
To my house within a house,
For everyone knows nature is tempted
When a cat is after me, a mouse!

Marijo, great poem! I have a Siberian Husky with blue eyes that look as if she can see right through me. I have wondered the same...what is she thinking. Welcome to My Pet Tale!

Thanks my dear - think I wrote this one back in the early 1960s (I was about 15 or 16.....) KNEW you'd like it it rhymes, of course... GRIN

I never knew you left a comment on this one Verna! A long time ago - thanks - I wrote this as a teenager but it is still a fun poem I think!
