Top Ten Most Popular Dog Names for 2008

If I asked you to list the top ten dog names for 2008, I imagine your list would differ from mine quite a bit. There are people who keep track of names, though, it is not an exact science. Petfinder.com has compiled a list of the most popular names and it doesn't include Fido, Spot, or Dude. the list is a compilation of from their over 145,000 adoptable dogs. Here is the list with the number of dogs with that name following:

1. Buddy - 805

2. Max - 620

3. Daisy - 588

4. Jack - 520

5. Lucy - 496

6. Molly - 476

7. Charlie - 431

8. Sadie - 415

9. Jake - 407

10. Lucky - 405

As you can see the list is pretty evenly split between male and female names. I imagine Lucky could go either way.

Dogtime.com's list of male dogs has Max and Buddy coming in as one and two, respectively. Jake and Charlie are numbers 5 and 6 and Jack is number 7. For females Dogtime.com includes Molly, Lucy, Daisy and Sadie in their top ten at numbers 2, 3, 5 and 7.
