Chupacabra May Be a Coyote! Real or Not? CNN and KHOU Videos Let You Decide
by Jane Webb(31)Chupacabra stories abound and a new rash of them are hot on the Internet right now. The questions remains: Is a chupacabra, as it is described in the stories, real or not? Has someone with a vivid imagination seen a coyote or other predatory animal and fueled the mythical fire?
The latest professional video posted by CNN shows the carcass of an animal suggested to be a chupacabra. A taxidermist intends to preserve the beast. The latest amateur video is of a chupacabra in Texas, giving no real glimpse of anything except darkness and glowing eyes. What looks to be the reflection of light in eyes appears at the end of the video circulating the Internet.
Wikipedia defines the chupacabra as a legendary cryptid. The name comes from the Spanish words, chupar meaning "to suck" and cabra meaning "goat".
The first reported events attributed to chupacabra occurred in 1995 in Puerto Rico. Eight sheep were found dead with 3 puncture wounds in the chest. All eight were without blood, assumed sucked out by the chupacabra.
In Colorado, similar things were reported around Halloween making many believe all of this is cult related as some Satanic cults practice draining and using animal blood in their rites.
Most of the carcasses of suspected chupacabras have been identified as coyotes. Not all have been identified yet, but most have an explanation.
CNN on September 3, 2009 released an animal found that could be the legendary animal.
UPDATE: KHOU Television out of Houston Texas aired a video October 27, 2009 that shows a dead "chupacabra". Animal expert says the animal is a coyote with severe mange. Officials have been alerted because of the health risk involved.
Personally, I agree with the coyote assessment. You watch. You decide.
