Big dogs. Guiness Book of World Records keeps track of exceptionally sized dogs and many love hearing about them. The latest dog in the news for his size is Boomer, Caryn Weber's Landseer Newfoundland. Measure Boomer from his snout to the tip of his tail and you'll cover seven feet. Boomer's owner plans to submit his stats to Guiness soon. His weight is a mere 180 pounds; not enough to be considered the heaviest dog. If accepted by Guiness, his name will be listed under world's longest (currently) living dog.
If you are a dog lover, you have no doubt heard of Hercules whose picture made the rounds on the Internet as the largest dog. The picture showed Hercules, a 282-pound English Mastiff walking along side his owner, a woman and a horse. Some consider the picture a hoax, citing doggy physics; he just couldn't be that big and be alive. But, his owners and Guiness concurred his stats were true. Hercules lived to be 8 years old.
Gibson, a Great Dane was listed as the world's longest dog from 2004 until his death in August, 2009. Gibson also measured in at seven feet. Gibson's person, Sandy Hall authored a book from Gibson's view called "Gibson Speaks" In addition to his massive size, Gibson was a certified therapy and special needs training dog. I'm sure he got everyone's attention when he entered a room. Gibson's son, Brewster's measurements are in line with his dad's. Brewster is a possible contender for the title of World's longest dog in a few years.

Wow - Marijo. I can't imagine a dog that big. Ours are in the 50-60 pound range and that is just right for our family. Thanks for reading and commenting.
