Jenkins' Car Stolen with Dog Inside - Otis Reunited with His Family
by Lorrie Davids(398)
When Homer Jenkins parked his car at a Savannah post office, he never thought his car would be stolen. In the car was his 14 year old dog, Otis. Unbelievably, this story has a happy ending.
Flyers were placed around town with the hope that someone would find the pup and contact his human. Several days later, the Jenkins' received a phone call from a woman describing Otis. The woman had seen a news story about the stolen car and dog and recognized him.
The person finding Otis took great care of him, even taking him to a vet when the pup ran into a car. The dog as not injured and is now back home. Mr. Jenkins says he will never leave Otis in a car alone again.
I never imagined someone would steal a car with a dog inside; the dog would be a deterrent, I'd think. But, if someone wanted the car that badly, I guess they wouldn't care if animal or child was still inside. I live in a climate that is warm to hot almost all year so I wouldn't think about leaving my dogs in the car, for safety reasons. Obviously, as this event points out, there are more reasons than overheating not leave a pet in an unattended car. Good for Otis and the Jenkins'! It is good to hear about a happy ending.

Me, too, Marijo. I can say, thinking back, there have been a couple times when I have left the pups in the car when paying for gas or something like that, but it was long ago. As time passed, they have become like our little kids and I'd not ever consider doing it now. Thanks for your encouragement, for reading and commenting.
