Dogs come in all different sizes and breeds and most people if asked which breed is the smallest, would guess the Chihuahua. That would be a correct answer. Chihuahua generally grow to be between six and ten inches and weigh no more than six pounds. But, there is a smallest of the smallest.
Meet Heaven Sent Brandy, a female chihuahua currently holding the Guinness record for smallest living dog. Brandy is a female chihuahua living in Largo, Florida. Brandy measues in at 6 inches (15.2 cm) from her nose to the tip of her tail. She was measured on July 31, 2005.
An even smaller pup claims the record as of October 3, 2007. Boo Boo is just four inches (10.16 cm) tall, the smallest dog in height. These specifications for world records can get pretty precise. Boo Boo was about the size of her owner, Lana Elswick's, thumb when she was born. Boo Boo weighs in at 1.5 ounces (42.5 grams).
Then there is Dancer weighing in at just 18 ounces and just a hair over four inches tall. Dancer was in the running, but Brandy retained her crown until Boo Boo earned the title.
Do you know of a smaller dog than the ones I named? Guinness is always looking for new record holders. Check out http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/ and click on "Set a Record".
