Soldier Reunited With Dog Video - Andrew and Gracie

Animal stories grab me. There is just something about them that will, depending on the nature of them, leave my heart heavy or put a smile on my face that just won't go away. All the stories need to be told, but some are easier to write than others. Such a story is this one.

Several years ago Andrew Schmidt, now a Major in the Air National Guard, was deployed to Afganistan. Five months later, Schmidt's wife, Jen, video recorded his homecoming. Their rescue dog, Gracie cried with happiness when she saw her human, climbing into his lap and basking in his attention and love.

Andy and Jen posted the video on Youtube and now, several years later, it is still an Internet sensation with 4,407,373 views. You can view the video here:

That Gracie remembered and missed her human doesn't surprise me at all. It is said that dogs aren't cognisant of time, but her joy far surpasses the excitement pups show when you've just come home from the grocery store, even if you did stock up on Milk Bones.

Andrew and Jen are donating any money made from ads showing with the video to the shelter where they found Gracie. Andy's note on the video lists the amount at just over $600 so far.

Kinda make you want to give your pups an extra treat and a belly rub, doesn't it?
