A little over a year ago, a very scared, aggressive little 10 pound pup was scheduled to be euthanized. A caring person named Bronwyne saw something in the little pup and wasn't about to let it happen. Bronwyne contacted a friend and asked her to meet at a vet for an evaluation. This pup was terrified, aggressive and would not seem to be a good candidate for rehab into an adoptive situation.
The little pup, Edie, wanted nothing to do with people and threatened to bite when backed into a corner. Edie was fearful of the leash, so much that when leashed, defacated from fear. At that point Edie was pulled out of the corner and her mess in into the arms of a caring man.
The gentleman evaluating Edie immediately pulled her unto his lap and started petting her. He talked to her in soft tones and held her close. she immediately calmed down and even approached another human, then layed belly-up, a sign of submission and vulnerability. Edie just laid there, accepting attention of the two humans around her; the same humans who she was so afraid of moments earlier.
After grooming; a full shave, Edie seemed grateful and loved the snuggles all the more. Edie's life was saved because someone saw something special about her.
Our dogs are almost like humans to those of us who truly love them. That this little pup now has a chance at a normal life is wonderful and amazing. There is a video showing the process of trust developed between two humans and a little 10 pound ball of fluff. It can be viewed here: http://www.godvine.com/Meet-the-Scared-Dog-That-Only-Wanted-a-Hug-1087.html
There is something about rescuing a dog that just feels good. I hope you will watch the video and when it is time, consider a dog from a shelter. You don't know what kind of circumstances they have endured, but it could be, all they need is some love.
